At a college or university, an Academic Dean is considered as a senior administrator who has authority over a single academic study or area of the school. She reports to a chancellor or provost and serves as a resource for the university’s faculty, parents and of course the university students. The dean creates and develops academic programs and policies and coordinates student activities and advises students and faculty on personal matters. They also have the power to advice the school president regarding several things, manages the budgets and other admin functions. In some colleges or universities, the academic dean may also have several deans who report under them, referred to as associate deans.
